After the ecological transition, what will remain of the "world before"?

Why, in the state of our knowledge, is the collapse promised by collapsologists not inevitable?

On the one hand, there are those who think that the world is on the edge of the volcano and threatens to sink into the bubbling lava, because humans, although warned, enlightened, even lectured, continue to waste, even to plunder, the ultimate natural resources, and fueling climate change.

On the other side, there are the optimists, less numerous, who, for their part, defend themselves from any concerns, swear that we will find solutions that will not upset either our lifestyles or our fundamental values: everything will continue, as well as badly, despite a few foreseeable disruptions and adaptations, and humanity will fare as it always has.

Who to believe? Which side to choose? What does scientific research hold out for?
