How to vote abroad?
voting abroad Not being in France at the time of the elections is not a reason for failing in your civic duties! Whether you are simply on vacation or abroad, there is always a solution to make your voice heard in elections.

Vote abroad

If you live abroad, you too can make your voice heard in European, presidential and legislative elections as well as in referendums and elections for consular advisers.

As with a vote in France, it is necessary to be registered on an electoral list to be able to vote. If you live abroad, you can register on the consular electoral list by going to the Public Service website. The deadline for registration on the electoral roll is December 31 of the previous year. If you are registered in the register of French people living outside France, then you are already automatically registered on the consular electoral list, so you don't have to do anything!

Once registered, all you have to do is move on D-Day to the polling station set up for the occasion (the consulate will let you know its location). If you cannot come, it is possible to vote by proxy

Warning !
When you return to France, remember to remove yourself from the consular electoral list and register on the electoral list of your municipality, otherwise, you will not be able to vote in the next elections!

To make these procedures clearer, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has produced a very clear explanatory video for the attention of French people voting abroad:

Vote by proxy

It is well known that French presidential elections often fall during the May bridging period, and you might be among those who have decided to take a few days off at this time of the year. You may also be registered on the consular voters list, but be unable to make it to the embassy or consulate on polling day. Or, if you are on the move (around the world, roadtrip, etc.) and you do not know exactly where you will be on the date of the elections, you can still make your voice heard by voting by proxy.

The proxy consists in giving your right to vote to another person (registered on the same voters list as you) who will come for you to the polling station on election day.

In France, the power of attorney can be made at the Tribunal d'Instance, in the gendarmeries and police stations. Abroad, you will have to go to the head of the consular post or to an ambassador with a consular district. In both cases, you will have to show a valid identity document and the Cerfa form n ° 14952 * 01. You can collect this form on site or print it out at home and complete it in advance, but you must sign it in front of the appropriate person for it to be valid. The power of attorney is valid for one ballot (first round, second round or both) and for a period of one year if it is made in France, and three years if it is made abroad.
