Your checkbook is missing. You object
You notice the loss, theft or fraudulent use of your checkbook or a check; or the beneficiary of the payment is the subject of a judicial safeguard, reorganization or liquidation procedure. Only in these cases can you file an objection. Any other reason for opposition (litigation with a merchant, for example) is prohibited and may lead to criminal penalties (article L. 131-35 paragraph 2 of the Monetary and Financial Code).
Notify your banker as quickly as possible, by phone, for example. But always confirm by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt and attach the receipt for the declaration of loss or theft made to the police or gendarmerie. Indicate the date and time of the objection as well as the name of your interlocutor.
If this incident occurs while your bank is closing, call the Banque de France national call center for lost or stolen checks on 0 892 68 32 08 (0.34 euro / minute). This service makes it possible to generate an alert with traders for 48 hours. Do not forget to contact your bank as soon as it opens and to confirm your opposition by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt.
