Last year my family wanted to go on a holiday to a place that was a little (1) the beaten track. We had
spent our last five holidays in France, so we definitely needed a change. I was thinking how nice it would be to visit
an exotic place and spend lots of time on the beach, next to the clear blue sea. In previous years, my father
(2) always made all the travel arrangements and he (3) about to start making them for
this holiday too, but I insisted (4) going to a travel agent. We had never used the services of a travel

holiday destination. I thought everything would be perfect!
However, events proved me wrong! The exotic holiday destination they (7) promised us was a desert
island somewhere in the ocean with almost no vegetation, high temperatures, and lots of insects! The luxurious hotel
accommodation turned out to be a small and very dirty room and the swimming pool reminded me more of a swamp
(8) a pool! I had never seen anything so appalling before! Our holidays (9) ruined.
The strangest thing of all? We met a family there who were over the (10) with the place! ‘We have
never had the chance to visit such a beautiful island before! It’s amazing!’ the son said. ‘That’s it! I think I
(11) had enough!’ my father told us. ‘Pack your bags and we are out of here! This place is
(12) me up the wall!’ The next thing I knew, we were on the plane flying back home.
