You cancel a group insurance contract when it expires
While most of the contracts fall under the provisions of the “Chatel law” of January 28, 2005, some do not, in particular group insurance contracts. These are contracts taken out by a company or an association, for example, for the benefit of a group of policyholders. This mainly concerns certain supplementary health insurance contracts taken out on an individual basis, mobile phone insurance or even certain insurance linked to a good or a service (water leakage assistance, etc.). To find out if you have taken out a “group” contract, contact your usual contact or look in your contract, the mention usually appears at the beginning of it.
If you have taken out such a contract, you can terminate it annually, when it expires, provided you comply with a notice period. Pursuant to Article L. 113-2 of the Insurance Code, the period must be mentioned in the contract and cannot exceed two months (except for certain complementary health contracts). It is the date of dispatch of the registered mail (preferably with acknowledgment of receipt) which must be retained to count the deadline.
