You declare a change in risk to your insurer
In home or auto insurance, for example, certain criteria allow the insurer to assess the risk. This is the case for the living space or the value of the furniture in a house, the identity of the drivers of a vehicle or the garage location of the latter.
In the event of a change in risk, the insurer must be notified by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt within fifteen days of the date on which the insured became aware of it, in application of article L. 113-2. of the Insurance Code. Upon receipt of your declaration, the insurer will adapt the contract and readjust the premium up or down, or may, in certain cases, terminate your contract.
Please note: if you do not make this declaration, the consequences in the event of a claim may range from a reduction in compensation to cancellation of the contract, and therefore to the total absence of compensation, even if the element not declared had no influence on the incident.
recommended letter with receipt note
Dear,
I am insured with your company for (my car, my home, etc.) under the number (contract reference).
Since (date of risk modification), (precisely explain the modification: I had a swimming pool, a garage built, my son drives my vehicle, I park my car in a garage, etc.).
You will find attached (invoice for the work, driving license, garage lease, etc.).
I would therefore be grateful if you could tell me the impact of this modification on my contract and I remain at your disposal for any further information.
Pending a response from you within ten, please accept, Madam,
Sir, the expression of my best regards.
