You dispute a report that was drawn up for you in public transport

You have been checked in public transport and you have not been able to present a valid ticket. However, you felt that you were not in breach or that it was unintentionally that you had “defrauded”, and you refused to pay the lump sum compensation. The controller then drew up a report. Within two months, send a protest by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt to the service whose address appears in the report. Otherwise, your file will be sent to the prosecutor, and the fine you will incur may go up to 450 or 750 euros.

If this process fails or if the operator remains silent for a month, contact the transport company's mediator, if there is one (this is the case at SNCF or RATP, for example), or ask an association of consumers or users to do it for you. But do not waste time: the mediator can only act if he is contacted within two months of the minutes. Beyond that, the file is transmitted to the public prosecutor.

recommended letter with receipt note

Dear,

On (date), I was traveling from (place of departure) to (place of arrival) when a controller asked me to present my ticket.

I could not give him (specify: my composted ticket, the reservation, the supplement…), and the controller drew up the attached report.

Allow me to explain to you how, in spite of myself, I found myself in violation (state the circumstances as precisely as possible).

You will certainly recognize that these circumstances are beyond my control. That is why I ask you to please exempt me from paying the fine.

Please accept, Madam, Sir, the expression of my best regards.
